Solar Hot Water Panel on Community Centres
Three sets of solar hot water panels have been installed at Brynaman Public Hall and Cinema, Cwmllynfell Community Centre and Gwaun Cae Gurwen Community and Health Centre. Information panels explaining how solar panels work and how they save energy have also been designed and put up in each building. All three buildings are open to the public and are popular venues. This is helping to raise awareness of renewable energy in our community. These projects were funded by the Energy Savings Trust and the Local Regeneration Fund through the National Assembly of Wales. Two further solar panel projects were installed on Tairgwaith and Rhiwfawr community centre this year. A project to install a solar-powered pump in a pond in a nature garden is planned in Tairgwaith school.
Funding has also been secured from SWISH for solar panels on a council house. Following a local publicity campaign, a family in Cwmgors were selected. These panels were installed in autumn 2003.
